rutas comerciales y zonas conflictivas.
caballería errante, conocida como “The Masters of Ember”.
Nimbus III
--------------------------
Presence of the Kriegstadt troops on
planet Nimbus III was not significative, consisting only of a few
outposts, guarded by a mechanized infantry company, whose men rotated
periodically with those of other outposts in the sector. The Nimbus
sector was a quiet destination, mainly agricultural worlds of little
military value, far from the commercial routes and conflictive zones.
One of the main reasons for the presence there of the Reich of
Kriegstadt, was none other than to monitor the presence of the UEO
and its military, which under the pretext of humanitarian missions
and development aid, was acquiring greater weight political, economic
and military in the area.
Usually the Kriegstadt military were in
their outposts or carrying out routine patrols in areas far from the
population centers, as they had orders to avoid friction with the UEO
troops, which maintained the usual courtesy of diplomacy in the
context of tense international relations.
This balance was broken when the entire
spectrum of frequencies was filled with radio messages and desperate
calls for help from different towns and nearby farms.
Unable to contact, in response to these
calls, a mechanized infantry column was sent to the nearby
municipality of Lins, a village where an UEO artillery company was
stationed.
Far from what was
expected by the panzergrenadieren, their arrival in Lins had no
reticence on the part of the blue helmets of the UEO. They found the
explanation when looking towards the horizon through the
macrobinoculars, they could see the horrible image of a horde made up
of all kinds of nightmare creatures, approaching like a wave of teeth
and claws.
Taking positions in the small
buildings, the panzergrenadieren established a defensive line of fire
on the flank of the UEO troops, covered by the heavy weapons of their
transports and the armored support vehicles.
The battle begins
UEO artillery opened fire on the alien
horde that was heading for the defenses at full speed, blowing up the
remains of countless beings.
Kriegstadt infantry prepared themselves
disciplinedly to open fire at the proper distance, because each
projectile would soon be a valuable resource.
Suddenly, in the rear of the UEO,
unknown troops appeared, wearing black and yellow armor. The
Kriegstadters did not identified them, but seeing that they seemed to
be on the side of the UEO soldiers and joined the defense, they
considered them an allied. Later reports would indicate that these
warriors belonged to an order of wandering cavalry, "The Masters of Ember".
Once the aliens were at aim range, a
rain of shoots fell on them from the Panzergrenadieren and their
vehicles, methodically eliminating all those who approached enough to
the defensive perimeter.
The blue helmets of the UEO saw
themselves in greater difficulties, because enormous monstrous
creatures of the size of a building, were specially ferocious with
them, that they had even fought with a bayonet against those beings,
suffering terrible losses.
Tanks directed their fire to these
creatures, allowing part of the troops to run upstairs reaching the
top of the buildings to shoot from the rooftops to the most
vulnerable points.
Kriegstadt troops kept the line, for
which the use of flamethrowers was particularly useful.
The warriors in black and yellow armor
suffered great losses, since the horrendous beings showed a
particular cruelty against them and devoured as many as they could.
After tenacious resistance from the
entrenched troops and a long fight, the beings retreated suddenly,
probably to find some weak point in the defences or searching for
humans easier to eat.
UEO called for reinforcements and
prepared new defences, as those horrors would undoubtedly return in
greater numbers.
Kriegstadt troops were ordered to
return to their outposts while the general situation were being
evaluated by the High Command, as they considered the protection of
the Kriegstadter enclaves a priority. This movement was not welcomed
by the UEO, but their complaints were not very strong, since they had
a similar protocol of action.
The warriors in black and yellow armor
retreated in their aircraft, taking with them their wounded and the
remains of their fallen brothers, without major interaction with the
rest of human forces, nor give explanation of their appearance or
their retreat.
Colonel Hoffmann, in command of the
column, thought to himself that this had not been a definitive
victory, but seeing that all his men would return home, without
having suffered human or material losses, he considered that the
Kriegstadt Reich could undoubtedly be proud of the feat carried out
by him and his men in Nimbus III.
